Want some some great holiday decorating ideas? Love sampling tasty cookies?  Curious to peek inside Amelia Island’s gorgeous bed and breakfast inns?  Tickets for this year’s Amelia Island Bed and Breakfast Association Annual Cookie Tour, Saturday December 12th, are now on sale.  Your ticket allows you access to all six classic inns located in the heart of the downtown historic district.  While touring each inn you will sample a signature cookie offered by the inn and collect each recipe.  Trolly and carriage rides will assist guests as they stroll from inn to inn.  A portion of the proceeds this year benefits the Fernandina Beach Friends of the Public Library.  This tour is being offered in conjunction with other holiday events as downtown Fernandina Beach is transformed into a “Dickens on Centre” holiday theme.  Look for additional information soon but book your weekend now with the Blue Heron Inn.  Rooms this weekend won’t last long!

Take in a Little Theatre

August 18th, 2015 by David Jones

wasat_Theatre_MasksYou can take in two terrific performances here on Amelia Island in the next two weeks.  The Amelia Island Musical Playhouse is featuring the show “Gypsy” on the weekends of August 21st and 28th as well as Sunday matinees.  The award-winning performance is about the story of an ultimate stage mother.  Join Rose, June and Louise in their trip across the United States during the 1920s when vaudeville was dying and burlesque was born.  Jule Styne’s music and Stephen Sondheim’s lyrics include “Let Me Entertain You,” “All I Need is the Girl,” “Everything’s Coming Up Roses,” and more!  The Amelia Community Theatre (ACT) is presenting “I Love You You’re Perfect Now Change” the same weekends.  This small-cast musical comedy is a celebration of the mating game — what it involves and what it may lead to: dating, love, marriage, in-laws, and children. Presented in a revue style, it pays tribute to those who have found the courage to ask, “What are you doing on Saturday night?”  Plan a weekend to stay at the Blue Heron Inn while taking in either one of these great performances!  For more information you can visit ameliamusicalplayhouse.com or ameliacommunitytheater.com

wasat_Theatre_MasksTheatre tickets make great Christmas presents!  We are so lucky here on Amelia Island to have three wonderful and talented community theaters!  Amelia Musical Playhouse is a theater in the round  here on the island and offers live music venues.  Playing this month is “Peter Pan” and “The UnXmas Story”.  The rock musical “Hair” kicks off the 2015 season on January 8th.  Just down the street from the Blue Heron Inn is the Amelia Community Theatre.  Playing through December is “Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Christmas Carol” and kicking off the new year is “Grease” opening in February. Also within walking distance from the inn is the Fernandina Little Theatre.  Modeled on the popular “black box” and Equity-waiver theater spaces of Los Angeles and New York City, this theatre stages diverse and engaging productions in an intimate space.  “Love Letters” will start the season there in January.  Why not consider packaging up your tickets with a weekend stay at the Blue Heron Inn?  Who wouldn’t enjoy such an entertaining and fun-filled gift?  For complete season and show information please visit each theatre site: www.ameliacommunitytheatre.org; www.ameliamusicalplayhouse.com.
